Agenda Item: Post-Soviet Sovereignty

The Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) considers a broad range of issues covering a cluster of five decolonization-related agenda items, the effects of atomic radiation, questions relating to information, a comprehensive review of the question of peacekeeping operations as well as a review of special political missions.

The post-Soviet states, also referred to as the former Soviet Union or former Soviet Republics, are independent sovereign states that emerged/re-emerged after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. Before their independence, they existed as Union Republics, the highest-level components of the Soviet Union. In this committee, you, as delegates, will focus on emerging issues and take action to address them. Get ready for this committee, where you will learn both the General Assembly and Crisis Committee procedure!
